I have discovered after reading hundreds and hundreds of books, that the main ingredients needed by an author are heart, mind and soul. If an author feels the story, then and only then can she transfer the full meaning; the sorrow, joy, pathos and deep down love, tenacity and hope that glues those words together ~ melding them into the magnificent literature that become the classics of our time.
Gigi Sedlmayer is just that breed of author.
Little Matica and her family move to Peru to live among the Indians, high on a plateau surrounded by the beautiful snow capped Alps. Matica is a 9 year old girl living in the body of a 2 year old because of a growth impediment. But the superstitious Indians treat her as a stigma, perhaps even a devil possessed person and shun her and do not allow their children to make friends with her. She is terribly lonely and decides to make her own friends….and so our magic carpet ride begins.
The Andean Condor is the largest flying land bird in the world and is endangered. So how did a tiny girl and a bird with a 12ft. wing span becomes friends? Follow along as this author leads you on a beautiful journey of love, forgiveness, reconciliation, hope and daring.
This is the first book of a 4 book series and I am halfway through the 2nd. Although I am a fast reader, I will not read quickly now as I want to savor every nuance, every well chosen word of this exceptional work. A job well done! How special that you can read it to a child and also share it with your Grandma and both will be appreciative. There are beautiful thoughts, loving feelings and exceptional gently taught lessons to be gleaned from the author’s words.
Give it as a gift…you and it will never be forgotten.
